			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>No, I haven&#8217;t gone over to the dark side. Far from it. My last two computer purchases came from the manufacturer with Linux pre-loaded. That&#8217;s right, from the <strong>manufacturer</strong>, not some reseller who has taken a machine and removed Windows and slapped Linux on it for me (I can do that myself, thanks).</p>
<p>Anyway, this post is to let you know about <a title="My Hopefully-No-Longer-Ongoing Vista Ultimate Upgrade Nightmare" href="http://opensourcetogo.blogspot.com/2008/10/my-hopefully-no-longer-ongoing-vista.html" target="_blank">this post</a> from David Schlesinger wherein he details the pain he has gone through when he made the mistake of trying to upgrade from Vista Business to Vista Ultimate. I can&#8217;t believe that changing between different versions of the <strong>same operating system</strong> could blow up so spectacularly. I guess Lenovo and Microsoft are just talented in that regard.</p>
<p>In other news, my last 100 or so Linux installs went swimmingly, and I can&#8217;t recall an instance where an Ubuntu upgrade left me with a completely broken system.</p>
<p><em>P.S. I <strong>can</strong> recall an instance where a Foresight upgrade left me with a completely broken system, but that&#8217;s a topic for another day. <img src='http://daniel-bartholomew.com/wordpress/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </em></p>
